I had graduated from university just the year before. I had no clue what I wanted to do with my life, and I certainly had no plan. I worked in a retail sales job where often a whole day would go by without any customers coming in. I was bored and unmotivated. I think I even fell asleep at work a few times. It was beyond brutal. I knew there was something more to life than what I was doing, but I didn’t know what it was or how to find it. But I had an idea – one I could not believe I was even thinking. Against everything that might have seemed logical, I followed my heart and moved from Halifax, Nova Scotia to Hay River, Northwest Territories – approximately 6300 kms (3900 miles) away from everything and almost everyone I knew. I had been to Hay River 2 years prior to the move – to visit my Mom and my uncle who were living there at the time. I didn’t love it at first. It was isolated and didn’t have a lot in the way...
