Keep calm and travel on!

Recently I did one of my very favourite things and went on a trip to Ireland. I’ve been wanting to go there for awhile now and finally made it happen! To say it was magical would be an understatement. It was green and lush, the people were incredible, and the Guinness does actually taste better there! But it’s not even all that stuff which made the trip so special. We had many struggles along the way, and each time, The Universe sent an angel to rescue (help) us. Here are just a few examples: First, we got bumped off the flight to Dublin and had to be routed to Gatwick. I won’t even get into the details of that (confusing, frustrating) experience, except to say we had an extremely helpful agent assist us in getting a flight and checked in to Dublin. #angel When we arrived in Dublin, we knew that my friend’s bag was missing (as it had not arrived in Gatwick). The lady at lost luggage services was very kind and helpful in assisting any way she could. #angel My friend had developed a slight cold/cough prior to the trip. While we were sitting in a bar having a pint one day, the waiter sends his co-worker to the store to buy some honey and makes her a healing hot honey drink. #angel When the bus tickets we bought online wouldn’t scan, and we couldn’t figure out the bus schedule, a driver told us to hop on his bus and that he’d get us where we need to go to make our connection. #angel During the trip, we had been...

Life is a mysterious and magical dance

“And now I’m glad I didn’t know the way it all would end, the way it all would go. Our lives are better left to chance. I could have missed the pain, but I’d have had to miss the dance.”                –The Dance (Garth Brooks) This song reminds me of one of the best moments of my life and one of the worst. The best moment was in September of 1996 when I got to see Garth Brooks live in concert. I was there with one of my roommates and 3 of my coworkers. We had seats that were essentially behind the stage, but he didn’t have a backdrop so we could still see fine. While my coworkers were off getting souvenirs, some tall, lanky cowboy came up and asked my roommate and me (seated in our seats) if we would like to be moved down to the second row. Um…YES!! He gave us new tickets, and away we went (after finding our friends and letting them know). The concert was phenomenal! If you have never seen Garth Brooks live, watch the YouTube video I included, and you’ll get an idea of what he’s all about. Whether you are a country music fan or not, it’s well worth watching! (You will probably want to grab some Kleenex beforehand.) The worst moment of my life happened just a little less than a year before that concert. It was in October of 1995 – my brother’s funeral. I had chosen ‘The Dance’ to be played because it really speaks to me about life and how...

Getting what you need isn’t always pretty

“You can’t always get what you want. You can’t always get what you want. You can’t always get what you want. But if you try sometimes, you just might find, you get what you need.” –You Can’t Always Get What You Want (The Rolling Stones) So far 2015 has been what I will call ‘interesting’. I’ve been faced with some challenges and a little bit of change. I’m in what Martha Beck refers to as Square 1. The mantra here is: “I don’t know what the hell is going on, and that’s ok.” Sometimes it doesn’t feel ok though; it feels really crappy! Here’s a snippet of some of the small stuff that’s gone on: my website was under construction for most of January (making that just over 2 months altogether!), my dog got fleas, business has been slower, and I had to cancel a trip for a retreat (that was given to me as a Christmas present) because of a snowstorm. (I’ll save the big stuff for another day.) The small stuff can be super stressful if we let it. I’ve had days where I’ve questioned whether I’m doing the right thing by being an entrepreneur. I keep making lists of things I ‘need’ to do, and although I am getting lots accomplished, it still feels like there is a lot to do. Life seems very doom and gloom when viewed from this perspective (with the ‘I’ll never _______’ mindset). My brain has been very active as the ego is fighting to keep itself alive. The good news is I recognize it’s fear talking, so I take time to...

I hope you have the time of your life

“Another turning point, a fork stuck in the road. Time grabs you by the wrist, directs you where to go. So make the best of this test, and don’t ask why. It’s not a question, but a lesson learned in time. It’s something unpredictable, but in the end is right. I hope you had the time of your life.”  –Good Riddance (Time of Your Life) (Green Day) This song was released in 1997 – I was 23 years old at the time. I had graduated from university just the year before. I had no clue what I wanted to do with my life, and I certainly had no plan. I worked in a retail sales job where often a whole day would go by without any customers coming in. I was bored and unmotivated. I think I even fell asleep at work a few times. It was beyond brutal. I knew there was something more to life than what I was doing, but I didn’t know what it was or how to find it. But I had an idea – one I could not believe I was even thinking. Against everything that might have seemed logical, I followed my heart and moved from Halifax, Nova Scotia to Hay River, Northwest Territories – approximately 6300 kms (3900 miles) away from everything and almost everyone I knew. I had been to Hay River 2 years prior to the move – to visit my Mom and my uncle who were living there at the time. I didn’t love it at first. It was isolated and didn’t have a lot in the way...

Let go, take a leap, and get what you truly want (and deserve)!

“Drench yourself in words unspoken. Live your life with arms wide open. Today is where your book begins. The rest is still unwritten.” –Unwritten (Natasha Bedingfield) A year and a bit ago, I was living in Millet, Alberta, Canada. I was single, working as a life coach, travelling, doing lots of things I loved with people I enjoyed being around, and yet, I still felt like something was missing. I’d had this feeling for a while that it was time for me to move, but I wasn’t sure where I wanted to go. Costa Rica (or another foreign country where there’s no snow!) was on my mind. Nova Scotia (where I was born and raised) was also a possibility. I’d been gone for 16 years, so maybe it was time to move back? (I had just sold my place in AB at the end of May and was going home to NS for vacation in June.) The two weeks flew by, and I decided to stay for the summer – living out of a suitcase! By the end of August, I knew I wanted to move back, so I went to AB to get my stuff from storage and drove across the country (by myself!) to begin the next chapter of my life. So, what has happened since I’ve been living back here? Lots! I rented an apartment in Halifax – hoping eventually to buy a house, but again not totally sure where I wanted to live in NS. I said goodbye to my 30’s. Yup, I turned the big 4-0, and it’s as fabulous as everyone says it...

She talks to angels (and vice versa) ;)

“Hear this voice from deep inside. It’s the call of your heart. Close your eyes and you will find passage out of the dark.” –Send Me An Angel (Scorpions) I generally write one blog per month, and this month it feels like I’ve floated from one idea to another – writing bits and pieces of a handful of posts. I couldn’t settle on which one I really wanted to put out there, and I don’t like posting something just to post something – I need to feel it. Then something happened, and I KNEW this is what I HAD to tell you about! A couple of days ago I came back into my office to get my coffee cup (to wash it), and saw an almost perfectly formed heart shape in the bottom. This was not created by me – or anyone else in my house. So, how did it get there you ask? Good question! When I initially saw the heart (after taking a double look!), I thought “That’s pretty cool!” and very clearly heard the message “The Universe loves and supports me.” An intuitive friend of mine said it was a reminder from my angels that I am abundantly loved. “The Universe is always speaking to us…sending us little messages, causing coincidences and serendipities, reminding us to stop, look around, to believe in something else, something more.”   ~Nancy Thayer~ We all have guardian angels (spiritual beings) who are assigned to assist us while we live here on Earth. Very often we receive messages from our angels, but people tend to brush them off – if they even...
